Detroit dropped outfielder Marcus Thames from the 40-man roster.
They also removed catcher Matt Treanor from the roster....no big loss - he ONLY played in 4 games - then spent the rest of the season on the DL after undergoing hip surgery. The Tigers are already set behind the plate with rocket-armed Gerald Laird and sweet-hitting rookie Alex Avila.
The Treanor move is basically a non-factor....except his wife's sweet beach volleyball ass will no longer be affiliated with the Tigers....
For those who don't know....Misty May-Treanor is considered one of the best female volleyball players on Earth!!
Misty May's resume' goes something like this: Won the 1998 NCAA Division 1 Women's Volleyball Championship as the starting setter at Long Beach State. The 49ers went undefeated 36-0....Named the NCAA Championship MVP....In '97 and '98 she was named both NCAA Division I First Team All-American and NCAA Player of the Year....received the Honda-Broderick Cup as the top female college athlete in 1998....May-Treanor and teammate Kerri Walsh were the GOLD medalists in beach volleyball at both the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics. They have been called "the greatest beach volleyball team of all time"....She has won more tournaments than any other female player with 105 career wins....

Thames began his MLB career as a New York Yankee. In his first big league at-bat he cranked a home run off future-Hall-of-Famer Randy Johnson! Thames helped the Tigers get to the World Series in 2006 by belting 26 homers!! In 2008 he tied a franchise record by homering in 5 straight games matching a mark shared by Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg, Rudy York, Vic Wertz and Willie Horton!!!
Thames NEVER received regular playing-time....and he pretty-much ALWAYS came up with a hit when the Tigers needed one....Dropping Thames frees up a spot for THE MOST OVERRATED RELIEVER IN BASEBALL - JOEL ZUMAYA!!!....Dave Dombrowski is an IDIOT!!!!
